The Flo Blade Shape

Photo: Rob Hall

This is my biggest kayak blade at 19" long and 7 3/4" wide.  It was originally developed for speed cruising in wildwater, Wavehopper, or any big fast boats -- in lengths  around 217cm.  It's asymmetrical (the fatter half enters the water first), Trik Style ,and huge for applications where you want the blade to stick  more than pull through the water -- but still quite releasable .  It also applies in shorter lengths to cruising and creeking scenarios where you want a lot of grip in shallow waters or a lot of support for  braces and rolls.  It has a well rounded tip to avoid corner wear and to  minimize blade spin on Duffeks.  In its ideal form, it's a smooth releasable wildwater blade.  Upper edgings are a beautiful curly maple and lower edgings are durable dynel.

Flo Compared to Cruising Blade. Flo surface area ~100 square inches.

Note that Flo is substantially larger.  Flo compares to most blade sizes being offered on the synthetic market
